A peaceful recreated traditional medina with artisan workshops, galleries, and boutique shopping.
The Medina d'Agadir (also known as Medina Polizzi) is a modern re-creation of a traditional Moroccan medina, built to honor the city that was destroyed in the 1960 earthquake. Designed by Italian architect Tarak Ben Ammar under the direction of hotelier Gianni Polizzi, this medina is not a restored ancient city but rather a beautiful interpretation of traditional Moroccan architecture. It features winding alleys, artisan workshops, art galleries, jewelry makers, pottery studios, and boutique shops selling high-quality Moroccan crafts. Unlike the old medinas of Fes or Marrakech, this medina is calm, clean, and easy to navigate - no need for a guide. Visitors can watch artisans working with leather, metal, wood, and ceramics. There are also several cafes and a traditional restaurant. The medina is designed to preserve and promote Moroccan artisanal traditions, and it's particularly good for shopping without the aggressive sales tactics found elsewhere. The complex includes an art school and cultural center. Be sure to climb to the rooftop for views of the medina layout and the distant ocean. Entrance is free, and it's open daily[citation:1][citation:4][citation:10].
