Southern Morocco's largest market with 3,000 stalls selling spices, crafts, carpets, and local goods.
Souk El Had is the largest traditional market in southern Morocco, covering 14 hectares (34.59 acres) with over 3,000 stalls. This walled market is a vibrant maze of vendors selling everything imaginable: fresh produce and spices, aromatic herbs and dried fruits, traditional clothing and kaftans, leather goods and babouche slippers, handmade ceramics and pottery, Berber silver jewelry, hand-knotted carpets and rugs, and countless souvenirs. The market is organized with similar products grouped together, making it easier to navigate despite its size. The souk has 12 entrances, and stalls are numbered by category. Bargaining is expected and part of the cultural experience - start at about half the asking price and negotiate politely. The market is busiest on Saturdays and Sundays when locals do their weekly shopping. It's open daily from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM. Don't miss the street food section where you can sample fresh orange juice, grilled meats, Moroccan pastries like chebakia, and traditional mint tea. The souk is a feast for all the senses and an essential Agadir experience[citation:1][citation:4][citation:9].
