UNESCO fortress village featured in Hollywood films like Gladiator and Game of Thrones.
A UNESCO World Heritage site and filming location for countless Hollywood epics (Gladiator, Game of Thrones, Lawrence of Arabia, The Mummy), Aït Benhaddou is a stunning fortified ksar (village) made entirely of red mud-brick. Located at the edge of the High Atlas Mountains near Ouarzazate (the 'Hollywood of Morocco'), this 11th-century trading post is one of Morocco's most photographed sites. You'll cross the dramatic Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass (2,260 meters elevation) with breathtaking views, explore the ksar's narrow alleyways and granaries, and visit Ouarzazate's Atlas Film Studios and the Taourirt Kasbah. The round trip takes a full day (approx 10-12 hours) but is unforgettable. The sunlight on the red walls at golden hour is spectacular [citation:8].
