A massive traditional market labyrinth with specialized sections for every craft and souvenir.
The souks of Marrakech form the largest traditional market in Morocco and one of the busiest in Africa. This labyrinth of narrow alleyways is divided into different districts specializing in specific crafts: leather (Souk el Kebir), metal lanterns (Souk Haddadine), woodwork, jewelry, carpets, pottery, textiles, spices, and much more. You'll see artisans dying fabric different colors, whittling wood, and hammering metal right in their workshops. Bargaining is expected—it's a cultural dance. Beyond souvenirs, the souk is a place to witness traditional craftsmanship alive and well in the 21st century. Children are often welcomed and given small gifts by shopkeepers [citation:1][citation:3].
