Beautifully preserved 16th-century royal tombs with exquisite marble and cedar decoration.
Discovered in 1917 and carefully restored, these 16th-century royal tombs are one of Marrakech's major historical sites. The tombs date back to the reign of Sultan Ahmed al-Mansur (1578-1603) and feature stunning decoration with intricate cedar carvings and lavish marble work. The main chamber, the Hall of Twelve Columns, is particularly breathtaking with its domed ceiling and ornate Italian marble columns. Over 60 members of the Saadian dynasty are buried here in a quiet, walled garden setting. The site was sealed up by Sultan Moulay Ismail for centuries, which preserved its incredible beauty [citation:1].
